Old Acquaintance - Albert Huffstickler

It was like talking to a dead person.
I heard about people I hadn’t seen in thirty years
and didn’t care for at the time.
It was like walking through a graveyard
and having a corpse pop out of every hole.
It was like working hard for a hundred years
then finding out that your life counted for nothing.
It was like dreaming that you died
then waking to find that you hadn’t
but everyone else had.
