     Barbara Fisher and Richard Spiegel joined Disabled In Action in 1990.  They served as advisors to the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities during the administration of Mayor David Dinkins.  They were awarded the Mayors' Very Special Arts Award in 1992. Together they have designed and taught 3 Special Education Institutes at Fordham University . 

      Barbara is the author of "Care Without Care" (Avon, 1972).  She served on the board of the Center for the Independence of the Disabled of New York.  In 1990 Barbara and Richard co-authored "The Parenting Teens Common Sense Guide," which was distributed by New York City Public Schools to guidance teachers in all its middle and high schools.

     Richard is a NYS licensed Special Education teacher.  He has administered and taught special education programs in New York City.  He served as co-chair of Ruth Messenger's Disability Advisory Group.  He is currently the co-chair of the ARTSPAES steering committee.

      Athelantis Thomas Perry, Ten Penny Players' administrative assistant and teaching artist, has frequently served as a role model for students with disabilities and expresses this in his performances.
